Meet Noeem Taiwo Thanny; Seven Things To know About the Associate Prof., and his promotion by LASU Governing Council

The Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU) has approved the promotion of the Head of Department of Public Relations and Advertising in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of the institution, Noeem Thanny, to Associate Professor.

NOP NIGERIA reports quoting a letter dated 7th April, 2026, with which the University Governing Council conveyed its decision to Dr. Noeem Taiwo Thanny following its 145th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, 26th March, 2026.

The promotion, which takes effect from 1st October, 2025, moves Dr. Thanny from Senior Lecturer to Associate Professor.

The approval came after a successful performance at the promotion interview held on Tuesday, 17th March, 2026.

Noeem Taiwo Thanny; Seven Things To know About New Associate Prof of Communications

1. Until his elevation, Dr. Thanny served as Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Public Relations and Advertising, where he teaches Public Relations, Development Communication, Strategic Communication, Behavioural Change Communication, and Communication Campaign Planning.

2. A seasoned communication scholar and practitioner, Dr. Thanny holds a doctorate in Applied Communication from the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, a UNESCO Centre of Future Reference.

3. He is a 2017 Ford Foundation grantee, having undergone training in Social Media Use in Public Relations and Communication at the International School of Communication (ISOC), London.

4. He is a member of Nigeria’s two foremost associations of communication scholars and professionals — the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) and the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals in Nigeria (ACSPN).

5. Dr. Thanny has extensive consultancy experience with government agencies and non-governmental organisations.

6. His engagements include facilitation for the UNICEF Network of Mass Communication Teachers/Institutions on Mainstreaming Child Rights Reporting Curriculum in November 2019, and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Training on Effective Public Relations and Protocol Management in Corporate Governance.

7. He also participated in the Lagos State Ministry of Health/Lagos State Ministry of Information/UNICEF Joint Material Development Retreat for Maternal and Child Health in April 2015.

Within LASU, he has undertaken key responsibilities including membership of the University Curriculum Committee from March 2023 to 2025. He was a former Coordinator of PhD and DCS programmes and Sub Dean in the Faculty.
