Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, has withdrawn from the governorship race in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring support for Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

Lemo announced his decision in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, explaining that the move followed what he described as deep reflection and wide consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.

Describing his withdrawal as an act of statesmanship rather than defeat, Lemo said the decision was a strategic realignment aimed at strengthening the All Progressives Congress and promoting unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“This is not a retreat from service. It is a deliberate, strategic alignment for the greater good,” he stated.

Lemo expressed confidence in the choice of Adeola, noting that party elders believe the senator has the capacity to sustain the achievements of the current administration led by Governor Dapo Abiodun and further position Ogun as a leading industrial and innovation hub in Nigeria.

He added that the consensus arrangement was intended to strengthen unity across the state’s three senatorial districts and boost the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.

Calling for party unity, Lemo urged his supporters across the state’s 20 local government areas to mobilise fully behind Adeola’s campaign, pledging to contribute his experience in finance, enterprise, and public policy toward ensuring victory.

Lemo’s withdrawal came two days after the Ogun chapter of the All Progressives Congress formally adopted Adeola as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
