Local equities market sustain bullish run, gain N1.858trn

The Nigerian equities market closed on Friday on a strong positive note, appreciating by N1.858 trillion, as bulls continued to dominate trading activities during the day.

The growth trajectory was supported by gains in mid  and heavyweight stocks, including MTN Nigeria; Dangote Cement; Ecobank Transnational incorporated; UBA; Zenith Bank; Wema Bank; Zichis Agro Allied industries and 35 other companies.

This resulted in the market capitalisation of listed equities increasing by 1.29 per cent to N145.335 trillion from N143.477 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also went up by 2886.65 basis points to 225774.33 points from 222837.68 points recorded on Thursday.

The market breadth was with 42 advancers against 26 decliners, bringing year to date return to 45.05 per cent.

An analysis of the trading at the NGX on Friday  showed Academy Press and UPDC led the gainers’ table with 10 per cent each to close at N7.70 and N4.40 per unit respectively.

Hmcall followed with a gain of 9.97 per cent to close at N3.97 per unit; Zichis added 9.94 per cent to close at N15.60 per share; Wema Bank up by 9.84 per cent to close at N31.25 per unit.

On the contrary, Meyer Paint topped the losers’ chart, dropping by 9.92 per cent to close at N16.80 per unit; TransExpress trailed, declining by 9.30 per cent to close at N7.90 per share; C&I Leasing shed 8.53 per cent to close at N5.90 per unit; Omatek fell by 7.34 per cent to close at N2.02 per unit; Etranzact dipped by 5.28 per cent to close at N17.05 per share.

The volume of trades declined by 40.321 million, representing 6.04 per cent as investors traded 627.616 million shares against 667.937 million shares reported the previous day; the value of transactions surged by 16.76 per cent to settle at N44.512 billion in 55232 deals.

Further analysis indicated that trading in the shares of Access Holdings Company led the market activities with 75.616 million shares valued at N2.364 billion; UBA followed with account of 43.115 million shares worth N2.320 billion; Wema Bank traded 41.473 million shares valued at N1.262 billion; Zenith Bank exchanged 38.421 million shares cost N5.220 billion, while Universal Insurance traded 29.450 million shares valued at N35.898 million.
