Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election, securing the backing of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, during a high-level visit in Lagos.

Hamzat, accompanied by political stakeholders, commenced his consultative tour at Gbajabiamila’s residence, where the purpose of the visit was formally presented by former Minister, Musliu Obanikoro.

Obanikoro stated that the deputy governor had indicated interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election, describing him as a capable leader for Lagos.

“Lagos is a leading state, and we want a man who can serve as a bridge to a brighter future,” he said.

“The person we have brought to you has the capacity to govern this state. We are here to seek your blessings, prayers, and support.”

In his remarks, Hamzat explained that the visit was part of a structured political consultation process ahead of formal campaigns.

“We follow a template as part of the political process, and that is why we are here—to consult before the main campaign begins,” he said. “I am confident that the APC will win the election, but beyond winning, we must also demonstrate to the people a credible and transparent process.”

Gbajabiamila, while receiving the delegation, commended Hamzat for adopting a consultative approach and assured him of his support.

“You are here to solicit support and seek blessings because you do not take it for granted. That is commendable,” he said. “There are many who are eager to wrestle power. It is time for us to roll up our sleeves—we have an election to win and a state to build. I assure you of my support.

“APC remains a formidable party because of the quality of its leadership.”

Also speaking, Senator Ganiyu Solomon appreciated Gbajabiamila for hosting the delegation.

The tour proceeded to Badagry, where Hamzat was received by traditional rulers, political leaders and party stakeholders.

Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde, welcomed the Deputy Governor and commended his outreach to the division. “We appreciate your visit to this region. We thank you for the honour of engaging with us,” he said.

Reiterating the importance of the area, Obanikoro described Badagry as a critical political bloc. “Badagry has a strong record of political participation.

Hamzat, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the reception and emphasized the strategic relevance of Badagry in Lagos politics. “Badagry cannot be underrated. The ‘B’ in ‘IBILE’ is essential—without it, the identity is incomplete,” he said. “Lagos needs the support of every region, and Badagry cannot be excluded. We seek your prayers, blessings, and endorsement ahead of the campaign proper.”

Speaking on behalf of local stakeholders, Apex Leader, Hon. Joseph Bamgbose pledged support for Hamzat but raised concerns about the division representation and development needs.

“Badagry is not adequately represented among permanent secretaries in the state. We also need improvements in infrastructure and employment opportunities,” he said.

Similarly, Aholu of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry, Oba Sejiro OlamiLekan James, urged the deputy governor to prioritize the development of Badagry.

The visit culminated in the unveiling of the ‘City Boy Movement’ in Badagry, a political group that declared its support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition.

Hamzat commended the initiative and expressed gratitude for the endorsement, describing it as a sign of growing grassroots momentum.
