MTN Nigeria has announced that it will compensate subscribers affected by recent service quality shortfalls, following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), while also rolling out plans to upgrade its network infrastructure nationwide.
In a statement on Thursday, the telecom operator said the compensation will cover customers in areas where service quality failed to meet regulatory standards between November, December, and January.
MTN said the move aligns with the NCC’s consumer protection directive and reflects its commitment to improving customer experience across its network.
“All consumers within the affected areas where service shortfalls were recorded will receive compensation for the operating periods of November, December, and January, in accordance with the applicable framework,” the company stated.
While confirming compliance with the directive, MTN stressed that its long-term focus remains enhancing network reliability and reducing service disruptions.
The company also outlined plans to increase capital investment in infrastructure, including upgrading network equipment, strengthening resilience against outages, and working more closely with tower infrastructure partners.
It acknowledged that broader industry challenges, including infrastructure limitations and external disruptions, continue to affect service delivery but reaffirmed its commitment to addressing them in collaboration with stakeholders.
The NCC has recently intensified regulatory oversight of telecom operators amid rising concerns over service quality, driven by increasing demand for data and voice services across Nigeria.
