Singer Seun Kuti has opened up on a childhood experience involving his late parents, Fehintola Kuti and Fela Kuti, during a period when his father was in detention.

NOP NIGERIA reports that he explained that the incident happened when his father was being held at the Federal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Alagbon Close. According to him, his mother once concealed cannabis inside a loaf of bread and asked him to deliver it to his father during a visit.

Seun said he was very young at the time, around eight or nine years old, and had no idea what he was carrying. He recalled that his mother handed him the bread and instructed him to give it to his father when they arrived at the facility.

He carried out the task without suspicion, unaware that anything unusual had been hidden inside.

He added that it was only after they left the detention centre that he found out the truth.

His sister later told him what had been placed inside the bread, revealing that their mother had informed her but chose not to tell him. He said this was likely done to prevent him from unknowingly saying something that could cause trouble during the visit.

“We were going to visit my father at Panti, and my mum bought bread to give to him. She hid ‘Igbo’ inside the bread and asked me to hand it over when we got there,” he said.

Bear in mind, I was about eight or nine years old. My parents were such gangsters, man! I didn’t even know what was going on. I just got there and gave the bread to my dad.

“On our way home, my sister asked if I knew there was Igbo in the bread. My mum had told her, but didn’t tell me because she knew I might have said something to the police.”
