The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has intensified efforts to deepen Nigeria’s industrial capacity with the construction of its Renewable Energy Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, a project expected to generate more than 53,000 jobs across the country.

Located on 40 hectares of land in Gora, the industrial park is one of the flagship energy infrastructure projects under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Economic Agenda. The facility is designed to strengthen local manufacturing in the renewable energy sector, improve energy security, and establish Nigeria as a leading renewable energy hub in Africa.

According to project details released by NASENI, the park is projected to create over 3,000 direct jobs and more than 50,000 indirect jobs when fully operational, making it one of the most significant renewable energy employment-driven investments currently underway in Nigeria.

Integrated renewable energy manufacturing hub

The Gora Renewable Energy Industrial Park is being developed as a specialised production centre for key renewable energy technologies. Its manufacturing sections will include wind assembly plants, small hydropower equipment production units, and solar cell and panel manufacturing lines.

This integrated approach is expected to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported renewable energy equipment while building local capacity for the production of critical components such as solar panels, mounting racks, wind systems, and biomass technologies.

NASENI said the industrial park is structured not only as a manufacturing site but also as a broader innovation ecosystem that will support research, product development, and technical training.

Strategic role in Nigeria’s energy transition

The project comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking to diversify its energy mix and expand electricity access, especially to underserved and off-grid communities. By localising renewable energy production, the agency aims to make clean energy systems more affordable and accessible to millions of Nigerians currently without stable power supply.

The industrial park is also expected to improve Nigeria’s energy resilience by reducing pressure on foreign exchange spent on importing renewable energy infrastructure.

Industry analysts note that domestic manufacturing of renewable energy equipment could significantly lower installation costs for solar and hybrid power systems nationwide, accelerating adoption across homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, and rural communities.

Economic and industrial impact

Beyond job creation, NASENI projects that the Gora facility will stimulate broader industrial development through supply chain expansion, technical skills transfer, and increased private sector participation in clean energy manufacturing.

The park is expected to serve as a renewable energy hub for West Africa, positioning Nigeria to supply neighbouring countries with locally manufactured renewable energy products.

Its projected benefits include:

  • Creation of massive direct and indirect employment opportunities for Nigerians
  • Expansion of local renewable energy component manufacturing
  • Reduction in import dependence for clean energy equipment
  • Support for regional export competitiveness in West Africa
  • Increased access to off-grid electricity solutions nationwide

Supporting infrastructure within the industrial park

To sustain long-term operations, NASENI is developing several component facilities within the complex. These include an R&D centre, knowledge park, energy centre, workshops, researchers’ lodge and studio apartments, multi-purpose warehouses, clinic and restaurant, wellness centre, solar farm, and fire service building.

Additional facilities such as NASENI multi-purpose halls are also planned to support administration, training, and industrial collaboration.

These supporting structures are intended to make the park a self-sustaining industrial ecosystem capable of driving innovation alongside production.

Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda

The Renewable Energy Industrial Park aligns with the Federal Government’s broader objective of strengthening domestic production under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It reflects a policy shift toward value-added manufacturing, technology localisation, and infrastructure-led industrial growth.

For NASENI, the project represents more than an energy investment. It is a strategic move to create economic resilience, stimulate technological advancement, and lay the foundation for a cleaner and more competitive industrial economy.

As construction progresses in Gora, the project is emerging as one of Nigeria’s most ambitious renewable energy manufacturing initiatives, with implications that extend beyond Nasarawa State into national job creation, industrial development, and long-term energy sustainability.
