The Nigerian Bar Association has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over what it described as inadequate funding for the state’s judiciary.
The NBA, through its relevant branch or officials, raised concerns that poor budgetary allocation to the judiciary is affecting the effective administration of justice, infrastructure, and overall performance of courts in the state.
This latest criticism adds to previous calls by the NBA on the Oyo government to address issues such as the shortage of judges, reconstitution of the Judicial Service Commission, and provision of necessary facilities for magistrates and judges.
Supporters of the judiciary argue that insufficient funding leaves the arm of government financially dependent and vulnerable to external influence, undermining its independence.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Oyo State Government to the latest remarks by the NBA.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions about the need for improved funding and autonomy for the judiciary across Nigeria to ensure efficient justice delivery.
