The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has condemned the killing of six soldiers and several civilians by Boko Haram terrorists in Mussa village, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
NOP NIGERIA reports that Ndume described the attack as tragic and called for renewed military efforts to secure communities under insurgent threat.
Sources who spoke with The Leadership said the incident occurred around 12 p.m. on Wednesday when insurgents attempted to infiltrate a military formation in the area.
The attack is the latest in a series of assaults targeting military positions and communities in southern Borno.
Security sources added that troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle, during which several terrorists were reportedly neutralised.
Reacting to the development, Ndume urged the Federal Government to equip security forces with modern weapons and strengthen intelligence operations.
Ndume said, “Our Nigerian Armed Forces are doing their best in fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are handicapped in terms of weapons.
“There is the urgent need on the federal government to Train, Equip, Arms and Motivate (TEAM) the military forces.”
He stressed that advanced military assets are necessary to effectively tackle insurgency.
“Our military and other security agencies should have access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets and drones if really we want to end Boko Haram madness,” Ndume added.
The senator expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and prayed for the repose of their souls. He also commended the efforts of the military and other security outfits.
Ndume praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, the police, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilantes for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
He reiterated the need for sustained support to security agencies to prevent further loss of lives in the region.
