The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken a major step toward sustainability by receiving three specialized Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to modernize its operational fleet.
The vehicles were handed over at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) in partnership with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV).
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the donation as a strategic move aligned with global best practices.
He noted that the shift to CNG will cut fuel costs, reduce emissions, and improve personnel welfare.
“The transition to CNG and electric vehicles is a strategic necessity,” the IGP said. He revealed plans to set up internal conversion centers so police personnel can handle vehicle conversions and maintenance independently.
This delivery marks the beginning of a wider fleet modernization program that will include converting more existing vehicles to CNG and integrating additional green technologies.
The initiative supports the NPF’s ongoing Green Initiative, which includes deploying electric vehicles and solar power systems across police formations nationwide.
The handover was attended by NPF-TF Executive Secretary Mohammad Sheidu and PI-CNG & EV CEO Barrister Ismail Ahmed, among other officials.
DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to efficient and environmentally friendly operations.
