The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed claims by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that the party is part of a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The clarification followed remarks made by Atiku during an interview on ARISE Television, where he reportedly listed the NNPP among political parties aligned with the ADC coalition.

Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, the NNPP factional National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, firmly denied the claim, stressing that the party neither belonged to the coalition nor had any intention of joining or merging with the ADC.

He maintained that the political activities of former Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, alongside associates such as Ahmed Ajuji and Buba Galadima within the ADC, were personal and did not reflect the position of the NNPP as an institution.

Olaposi further noted that members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement who followed Kwankwaso into the ADC represented only a minority, cautioning against interpreting their actions as the stance of the entire movement or the NNPP.

He also alleged that a significant portion of the group has since aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NNPP official expressed surprise at Atiku’s assertion, particularly given his prominent role within the ADC, emphasising that the party remained independent and focused on its electoral ambitions.
