Telecoms giant, MTN Nigeria, has suspended its widely used XtraTime airtime and XtraByte data lending services, preventing millions of subscribers from accessing emergency credit, NOP NIGERIA reports.
Checks by NOP NIGERIA indicate that users have been unable to borrow airtime or data over the past three days.
Users attempting to access the service are currently greeted with the following message: “Dear Customer, XtraTime is currently unavailable. Kindly recharge by dialing *904# or 671#. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
NOP NIGERIA reports that the *303# lending service has grown into a vital lifeline for millions of subscribers, providing quick access to airtime and data during urgent situations.
Through the platform, users are able to conveniently borrow airtime via XtraTime or data bundles through XtraByte, with repayment automatically deducted from their next recharge.
The development has sparked reactions among social media users.
