Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has uncovered and dismantled an illegal baby factory in Badagry, arresting two suspects and rescuing 28 victims in the process.
Speaking on Friday, the state commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, said the raid followed the directive of the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to intensify technology-driven efforts against criminal activities nationwide.
He said the operation was carried out after three weeks of intelligence-led surveillance, adding that the suspects used a Facebook account to lure pregnant women into the facility, promising payments ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1 million in exchange for their babies after delivery.
The commandant confirmed that a total of 28 victims were rescued from the premises, including 17 pregnant women, one adult male, and 10 children, some of who he said were infants.
He said preliminary findings revealed that one of the victims lost her pregnancy due to the harsh and unhealthy conditions in the facility.
Items recovered from the scene, according to the commandant, included a pumping machine, generator, six standing fans, two gas cylinders, a burner, large cooking pots, five Android phones, four large mats, and assorted food items.
Keshinro condemned the operation of such facilities, describing it as inhumane and criminal, driven by greed and disregard for human dignity.
