Indigenes of Agbaji community, Ilorin, Kwara state, the ancestral home of the former senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Thursday, sort God’s divine intervention over what they said was  a  calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation and implicate their kinsman in the reopened April 5,  2018 Offa bank robbery case.

The Islamic prayer, which lasted over an hour, was led by the Chief Imam of the Agbaji Central Mosque, Imam Abubakar Hakeebu, with other clerics in the community in attendance.

In a statement read after the prayer session by the general secretary of the Agbaji Development Association (ADA), Mohammed Ghali Jamiu, the people said  the re-opened court case is no longer about justice, but  a calculated political campaign driven by propaganda and deliberate attempts to tarnish the image of Dr. Bukola Saraki and the entire Saraki family.

“We have watched with growing anger and deep concern the recent developments in Ilorin Emirate involving the Wazirin of Ilorin Emirate and former Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Saudauna Ngeri, governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” they said.

The people also said attempt to malign and embarrass the Saraki family is unacceptable, provocative, and dangerous.

“Ilorin Emirate is not a theatre for political vendetta. The Saraki family has paid its dues in the history and development of Kwara state, and any attempt to rewrite that history through blackmail and public manipulation will be firmly resisted.

“Let it be known that the people of Ilorin are watching. Any further attempt to escalate this coordinated smear campaign will be met with strong public resistance,” they said.

The Agbaji people called on the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to urgently intervene and call all parties to order.
