The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the 2018 Offa robbery case involving former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, is strictly a legal issue.
The party dismissed allegations from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the state government is targeting Saraki.
The response follows a statement by the PDP on Friday, where the opposition party accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of attempting to reopen an already concluded case for political reasons.
However, addressing journalists in Ilorin on Saturday, APC Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Babatunde, stated that the claims were unfounded, insisting that the matter is strictly a legal issue to be resolved in court.
He described the PDP’s position as “melodramatic” and an attempt to evade accountability.
Neither Saraki nor the PDP needs to lose sleep if their hands are clean. The court deals with evidence and facts, not emotional statements aimed at rewriting history,” Babatunde said.
He maintained that no individual is above the law, stressing that Saraki should submit himself to the judicial process rather than resort to media exchanges.
“Senator Saraki’s denial is laughable and does not align with the weight of evidence already in the public domain.
“The testimonies available contradict his claims, but we leave the court to determine the truth when proceedings begin,” he said.
The ruling party also defended the decision to pursue the case, describing it as a lawful step to ensure justice for victims of the Offa robbery.
“It is the sacred duty of the government to ensure that anyone with questions to answer faces the law. The court remains the proper place to establish guilt or innocence,” Babatunde added.
The APC accused the PDP of attempting to politicise the issue, arguing that the AbdulRazaq administration remains focused on development.
“While the PDP is busy issuing statements, the government is building schools, constructing roads, upgrading healthcare centres, and ensuring prompt payment of salaries and pensions,” he said.
He advised Saraki to defend himself in court if formally charged.
