The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 General Election.
This was contained in a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna on Friday.
According to the statement, the decision was reached on Friday, 10 April 2026, following a meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), during which the proposal was reviewed alongside other electoral matters.
According to the Commission, the voter revalidation exercise is a key component of its mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters.
The exercise is designed to verify and update voter records, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the integrity of the voter database.
It also provides voters the opportunity to confirm and correct their personal details where necessary.
INEC, equally reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections in Nigeria.
