A developing political controversy in Oyo State over an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde has prompted reactions and denials from key political and traditional figures.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, confirmed that he was approached with a monetary inducement but said he rejected it, insisting he would not support any attempt to impeach the governor.
Ogundoyin dismissed claims that he received money from APC-linked actors, describing the allegations as false and politically motivated.
He maintained that no funds were exchanged and reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde and the ruling party.
He also addressed reports linking his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to impeachment discussions, explaining that the visit was purely consultative and related to his political ambitions, not any plot against the government.
Former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, also denied any involvement in the alleged plot, describing the claims as baseless and politically driven. She said she neither attended nor participated in any meeting concerning impeachment plans and warned against the spread of misinformation.
Similarly, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja called on the political figures in Oyo State not to drag him into politics, warning he is not a politician.
Olubadan in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko described the rumour as baseless and untrue.
Oloko in the statement on Tuesday, said the Olubadan has no power to impeach the Governor.
He added that a traditional ruler has no power to remove the Chairman of a local government area, talk more of a governor.
He called on the people not to drag the monarch into dirty politics.
He said “You don’t have to be a former Governor or distinguished Senator to know that a monarch has no power to impeach a Local Government Chairman, not to talk of a State Governor.”
