An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo state, Dr Ayobami Lam – Adesina, Thursday said Nigeria needs a functioning local government autonomy to ensure real grassroots development in the country.
Dr Lam-Adesina stated this while featuring on the Oyo state NUJ Guest Platform held at the Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The APC governorship aspirant noted that with full local government in practice, the education, agriculture and other key sectors will be adequately looked into and considered.
“There is a need for local government autonomy. If they don’t have local government autonomy, how will they perform? We have a number of farm settlements, give them what they need, they will improve the agricultural sector,” he said.
Dr Ayobami Lam-Adesina added that it was the revenue of Cocoa that was used to establish Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, build Cocoa House in Ibadan and do some other things.
He stated further that if elected as the Oyo state governor, he will focus on education, agriculture and health.
