
A 47-year-old farmer in Asa village, Okelade area in Ido local government area of Oyo state was last weekend allegedly killed by suspected herders.
It was learnt that the farmer identified as Chief Mutairu Oladosu, Otun Balogun Oluode Okelade, was gruesomely murdered by the herders while working on his tomato farm.
Eyewitness account said the herders reportedly invaded the farm in their large numbers and allegedly launched attacks on the deceased while working on his farmland with one of his daughters.
The witness stated that the 47- year- old farmer was overpowered by the herders said to be armed with dangerous weapons and killed him.
Speaking on the incident Monday, the Okelade Okin, Oba Wahab, who confirmed the incident, alleged that the attack was carried out by three suspected herders, adding that one of the suspects has been arrested and handed over to the police authorities for further investigation.
“We are here at the palace of Olubadan to inform Oba Ladoja about what is going on in our various communities in Ido local government area. The Fulani herders are not only grazing on our farms, but they have also become a source of threat to the dwellers,” he said.
Oba Wahab added, “The people in the area can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed because of the fear of the herders.
Last Friday, Oladosu was hacked to death by the suspected herders while working in his tomato farm.
“I prevailed on my people not to allow the incident to snowball into a major crisis hence the visit to the Kabiyesi. We are happy with the timely intervention of Oba Ladoja.”
Oba Ladoja speaking on the incident stated that he was informed of the attacks through the leadership of the community, and that he has informed the police about it.
