A government advisory committee approved the appointment of Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman as head of the Mossad, ending weeks of delays.

The review centered on a past case involving the alleged recruitment of a 17-year-old for an intelligence operation.

The attorney general raised legal concerns, and the appointment is expected to face possible High Court petitions.

Following the approval, Prime Minister Netanyahu signed the appointment; Gofman will assume the role on June 2, for a five-year term.
