Police Arrest

Ogun State Police Command has arrested at least three suspects in connection with the alleged murder of one Stanley Okirie in the Akute area of the state.

A statement issued on Friday by Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, identified the suspects as Maureen Okirie, Salia Karikari, and Jubril Karikari.

The PPRO said the suspects were apprehended on Thursday following an anonymous tip-off regarding suspicious activities in the area.

The police explained that while acting promptly on the information regarding their activities, “detectives arrived at the scene and caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-drenched corpse in a shallow grave, in what is suspected to be an effort to conceal the crime.

“A preliminary examination of the body revealed a severe injury to the victim’s head.

“Further investigation indicates that the victim was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects, who are relatives of the deceased, conspired in the commission of the crime and the attempted cover-up.

“The suspected murder weapon has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.

“The suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution”.
