The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has received the newly gazetted Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Regulations, pledging swift and comprehensive implementation across the Force.

The regulations were formally handed over on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, during a ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Olu Ogunsakin, described the gazettement as a critical step in bridging the gap between the Police Act, 2020 and the operational realities of modern policing.

He noted that the development effectively moves Nigeria’s police reform agenda from policy formulation to concrete implementation.

In his keynote address, Minister Gaidam reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening police reforms and ensuring that the new regulations are effectively enforced in alignment with national security priorities.

Responding, IGP Disu hailed the development as a major milestone, emphasizing that the regulations issued pursuant to Section 138 of the Police Act, 2020 provide a clear framework for professional, accountable, and rights-based policing. He commended the minister’s leadership and acknowledged the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Police Reform Secretariat in driving the process.

The police chief assured that implementation would begin immediately through force-wide dissemination, integration into training curricula and operational procedures, and strict enforcement across all commands and formations.

He stressed that accountability would remain central to the reform process.

The ceremony drew participation from key stakeholders, including representatives of the Police Service Commission, National Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Federal Ministry of Justice, the UNDP, and various civil society organisations.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the regulations, with the goal of strengthening professionalism, enhancing accountability, and rebuilding public trust in law enforcement.
