Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rejected a N100m bribe while dismantling a major railway vandalism syndicate and recovering stolen materials valued at over N400m.

The police said the operation, carried out by the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad, led to the arrest of two suspects—Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22—on April 9, 2026, in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence.

He said the operatives intercepted a trailer truck conveying about 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in a bid to evade detection.

“The operation led to the interception of a trailer truck conveying approximately 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers,” Placid said.

“The materials were concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in a deliberate attempt to beat security checks.”

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver was contracted for N2.5m to transport the stolen items from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State, indicating the existence of a coordinated supply chain linked to receivers of vandalised infrastructure.

Placid further disclosed that the operatives resisted an attempt to compromise the investigation.

“During the investigation, the operatives rejected an offer of N100m made to secure the release of the suspects and exhibits,” he added.

The police said the trailer truck used in conveying the items had been recovered, while efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate.

Reacting, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for their professionalism and integrity.

He said their conduct reflected the core values of the Force, describing it as a demonstration of discipline, courage, and incorruptibility in the fight against economic sabotage.

The police reiterated their commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and warned that individuals involved in vandalism would face the full weight of the law.
