A pro-Jonathan pressure group known as Bring Back Our Goodluck has passionately called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to make a political comeback and contest the 2027 presidential election.
The group made the appeal during a press conference held on Sunday at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democracy, Research and Training (Mambayya House) in Kano.
They argued that Nigerians were “misled in 2015” when they voted out Jonathan’s administration, and claimed his return represents the “surest path” to rescue the country from current hardship, insecurity, and national divisions.
Speaking at the event, the group’s National Coordinator, Dr. Grema Kyari, criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its promises after taking over in 2015.
“We were misled in 2015 by the APC under the late Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, and Chief Bisi Akande. They sold Nigerians deceitful promises, which they never fulfilled. Instead of progress, the country has been plunged into hunger, poverty, and frustration,” Kyari said.
The group highlighted Jonathan’s administration as Nigeria’s last period of relative economic stability, citing affordable food prices, cheaper fuel, and youth empowerment programmes like YouWin! and SURE-P.
They contrasted this with the current situation, where a bag of rice now costs between ₦80,000 and ₦100,000 compared to about ₦7,800 under Jonathan.
Kyari also praised Jonathan’s inclusive leadership style, noting that he appointed people across ethnic and religious lines, positioning him as a unifying figure capable of healing the nation’s divisions.
He drew parallels with successful political comebacks by leaders like Donald Trump in the United States and John Mahama in Ghana.
In addition to urging Jonathan to run, the group appealed to other prominent opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others to set aside personal ambitions and support Jonathan as a consensus candidate for the 2027 election.
Describing the upcoming poll as a “rescue mission” rather than a regular election, the group said the campaign, which began in the Northeast, has now extended to the North-West.
Dr. Kyari ended with a direct plea to the former president: “In 2015, you chose peace over power. In 2027, Nigeria needs you to choose the people again. Let us chase out bad luck, poverty, and hunger. Let us bring back our Goodluck.”
This latest call adds to growing speculation about Jonathan’s potential return to active politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
