Residents of Osun state, Wednesday stormed headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo, demanding for fairness in the August 15 governorship election.

The protesters called for clarification over claims that the newly deployed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oluwatoyin Babalola, was brought to influence the outcome of the forthcoming governorship election.

The protesters made up of market women, market men, youth, students, and members of the Coalition of Concerned Citizens in Osun state, said the demonstration was to appeal to the REC for  free, fair and credible election to ensure Osun remains peaceful before, during and after the poll.

A resident, Adeyemi Samson, said they came to appeal to the REC and urge INEC officers to ensure the election is peaceful, free from manipulation and that voters go to the polls to vote their preferred candidates while their votes are counted.

A hair stylist, Adebayo Omowumi, also said her plea was for a peaceful election, adding that the protesters were there to make their request known.

The coalition chairman, Musa Akinkumi Abdulsalam, demanded that the REC come out publicly to assure residents that the election would be transparent.
