The House of Representatives at the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, adopted a report on a bill for an Act to amend the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, Act and for Related Matters
The bill which seeks a legislative framework to move the bureau from the Ministry of Aviation to the Presidency for more efficient, robust performance and administration was was presented by Rep. Fred Agbedi (PDP-Bayelsa)
Presenting the report, Agbedi who is the Chairman, House Joint Committees on Special Duties and Aviation recalled that the bill was referred to the committee on May 14, 2025.
The lawmaker said that the committee proceeded to conduct the mandatory public hearing on the bill on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
According to him, majority of stakeholders agree with the amendment for the bureau to be domiciled at the Presidency as its scope is beyond Aviation Ministry.
“The sections of the Act affected by the amendment are sections 8, 11, 13, 22, 35
“I urge the House in Committee of Whole to consider and approve the report. I so move,” he said.
The report was unanimously adopted after the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu who presided over the house, called for votes.
