Senate confirms Darma as Federal Minister

Muttaqa Rabe Darma

The Senate of Nigeria has confirmed Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a screening session marked by questions and answers from lawmakers.

The confirmation comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally requested the screening and approval of Darma in a letter sent to the Senate on Wednesday.

The letter was read during plenary by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred the request to the Committee of the Whole for legislative consideration and further action, directing the committee to report back as soon as practicable.

During the screening exercise, senators engaged the nominee in a detailed question-and-answer session, focusing on his experience, capacity, and readiness to contribute to the Federal Executive Council.

Following the session, the Senate voted to confirm his nomination, paving the way for his formal appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic.

The development is part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen the Federal Executive Council through strategic appointments aimed at improving governance and service delivery across key sectors.
