A senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central and convener of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI), Yerima Shettima, has reaffirmed his determination to contest the 2027 Senate election, dismissing speculations about the emergence of an “anointed candidate” within the ruling party.
Shettima spoke while addressing journalists at a press conference in Kaduna, where he said his ambition is driven by the desire to provide quality representation for the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
He described reports suggesting the endorsement of a preferred candidate as false, urging party members to disregard such claims.
“I want to state clearly that I am in the race for the Kaduna Central Senate. The rumours of an anointed candidate are malicious and should be ignored. I have confidence in the leadership of the party to provide a level playing ground for all aspirants,” he said.
The aspirant expressed confidence in Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Uba Sani to ensure fairness, while stressing the need for transparent primaries that would allow stakeholders to freely choose candidates.
He cautioned party leaders against actions capable of undermining democracy and weakening public trust, noting that due process must be upheld.
“We must allow the rule of law, internal democracy and the will of the people to prevail. If the party decides on consensus, all aspirants must be carried along. I will abide by the outcome of a credible primary conducted in line with the party’s constitution,” he added.
Shettima urged his supporters to remain calm amid the rumours, expressing optimism that the party would emerge victorious if the right processes are followed.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and called for continued support for President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.
