State Department: Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire To Enable Talks, May Be Extended As U.S. Facilitates Broader Deal

The State Department released a statement ahead of the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire set to take effect at 5 p.m. today, saying:

•⁠ ⁠The initial arrangement is for ten days, with the possibility of an extension by mutual agreement.

•⁠ ⁠The U.S. said it will facilitate direct talks aimed at a broader peace and security agreement.

•⁠ ⁠Lebanon is expected to take steps to prevent Hezbollah and other armed groups from carrying out attacks, while Israel retains the right to self-defense.
