Sanjay Pulipaka, Chairperson, Politeia Research Foundation, highlighted that the biggest sticking point in the negotiations is the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil supply. Iran has indicated reluctance to reopen the strait unless there is a complete halt in hostilities, making it a major bargaining tool.

Pulipaka said that if reports of an immediate ceasefire prove accurate, it would be positive for India, regional economies, and other developing nations. However, he cautioned that clarity is still needed on whether the Strait of Hormuz will actually be reopened.

He noted that while the US and Iran appear to be engaged in serious discussions around the strait, the situation is far more complex. Israel remains a key stakeholder in the conflict and its position will be critical, particularly on issues such as Iran’s uranium enrichment, missile capabilities, and the potential use of any released financial assets.
