The Tijjaniyya Sufi Order, Tuesday expressed deep concern over the prolonged detention and ongoing prosecution of one of its prominent leaders, Sheikh Abdulkadir Sani Khalifa Zaria, while reaffirming confidence in the judiciary to deliver justice in the matter.

In a statement issued by its national vice chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula, the group described the cleric as a respected Islamic scholar known for his peaceful teachings, discipline, and advocacy for lawful conduct. The Tijjaniyya Order, regarded as one of the largest Islamic movements in Nigeria and West Africa with millions of followers, stated its long-standing commitment to peace, justice, and the rule of law.

Ther statement said  the issue began on November 30, 2025, when Sheikh Khalifa Zaria visited Ja’iz Bank in Zaria, Kaduna state, to carry out a transaction but was informed that his account had been placed on Post No Debit (PND). He was subsequently advised to visit the bank’s headquarters in Abuja to resolve the matter.

The cleric reportedly honoured the invitation on December 11, 2025, but was arrested upon arrival at the Abuja headquarters of the bank by armed operatives later identified as personnel of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
