President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress the authority to determine how party primaries will be conducted ahead of upcoming elections.

The decision was disclosed after a high-level meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Governor Umar Bago spoke to journalists shortly after the meeting. He said the President had issued clear directives to the governors regarding the party’s internal processes.

According to him, the move reflects trust in the governors and a shift in how decisions on primaries will be handled within the party.
Bago said, “We came to thank the President for his magnanimity and his support to the governors and for our party, the APC.”
He added that Tinubu had gone further by allowing governors take full charge of how primaries will be organised in their respective states. The process, he explained, will follow provisions of the Electoral Act.
“President Tinubu gave us some marching orders on what to do, for him also to have given and ceded his executive power to governors to go ahead and conduct primaries based on the electoral act, either by consensus or direct primaries based on the Electoral Act, either consensus or direct primaries.
“So he reiterated his support for our decision and he has given us a go ahead.”
