Tony Akiotu floors Raymond Dokpesi to emerge BON chairman

Senior High Chief, Tony Akiotu has been elected as the new chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), defeating Chief Raymond Dokpesi Jr. in a decisive vote at the organisation’s biennial election held in Abuja on Wednesday, 8th of April, 2026.

Akiotu secured 62 votes, while Dokpesi Jr. garnered 9.

In his acceptance speech, Akiotu expressed gratitude to members for their overwhelming support, describing the victory as a mandate to strengthen the country’s broadcasting sector.

He promised to lead with transparency, professionalism, and a focus on innovation.

Akiotu emphasised on the need for unity among BON members, noting that collaboration across media houses is essential to tackling the challenges facing Nigeria’s broadcasting industry.

He also stressed the importance of adherence to regulatory frameworks to ensure a credible and responsible media environment.
