President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja, said colonial-era tax laws impoverished Nigerians through fragmentation, multiplicity, and inconsistencies, and assured that the new reforms will deliver greater prosperity and inclusivity.

President Tinubu emphasised that the new tax system introduced by his administration is designed to be people-centred and investment-friendly, thereby advancing the nation’s development goals.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the President made these remarks at the commissioning of the 16-storey Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Headquarters.

According to a statement by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu explained that the new tax laws, which became fully operational in January 2026, are intended to liberate the economy from the constraints of archaic laws and make it more globally competitive.

Addressing concerns about the new tax reforms, President Tinubu assured that the NRS has repositioned itself as a revenue hub, equipped with capacity and technology, backed by research and data-driven policies, and sensitive to the needs of the people, particularly the vulnerable.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has blamed opposition figures, who are jealous of the achievements of President Bola Tinubu, for the rising insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), where he praised Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing reforms, Akpabio said opposition figures were sponsoring bombings to distract Tinubu from governance.

He added that the opposition figures are promoting insecurity and trying to discredit the government because elections are fast approaching.

According to the Senate President, recent security incidents were politically motivated and designed to create fear and discredit the government.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the Senate President insisted that President Tinubu’s performance in office had made it difficult for the opposition to mount a strong challenge, leading some actors to resort to desperate tactics.

According to him, the politicians are attracted to and joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) in large numbers due to the good performance of President Tinubu.

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, has confirmed an impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, admitting receiving a monetary inducement.

However, Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East State constituency, in a statement to journalists on Tuesday, clarified various allegations concerning the move to impeach Governor Makinde.

Ogundoyin admitted that he met with the former first lady and Olubadan and was offered a monetary inducement to impeach Makinde, but he rejected the offer.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not to proceed with its planned national convention, deepening the party’s leadership crisis.

NOP NIGERIA reports that Justice Joyce Abdulmalik issued the order while ruling on a suit filed by seven aggrieved members of the party.

In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik directed the parties and all parties involved in the dispute to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the hearing and determination of the case.

“I also order that all parties in this suit shall maintain the status quo ante bellum and shall not take further steps in this matter so as not to render nugatory the proceedings before the Court,” the judge held.

She also directed that the defendants be served with hearing notices ahead of the next sitting.

The case was subsequently adjourned to April 23 for hearing.

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, at his residence.

NOP NIGERIA understands that Fayose arrived at the residence of the traditional ruler around 4:50 pm.

The visit comes amidst allegations that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is progressing with plans to remove Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the Olubadan of Ibadan.

There have also been allegations that the Olubadan is sponsoring attempts to impeach Governor Makinde, though the traditional ruler has dissociated himself from such plans.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Fayose accused Governor Makinde of displaying a lordship style of leadership and warned that power is transient.

He also insisted that Governor Makinde is nursing an agenda to remove Ladoja as the Olubadan of Ibadan.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday announced the expulsion of former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala-Gombe and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, from the party.

They were expelled for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was announced during the party’s national convention held in Abuja by the faction under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark.

The convention, which took place at the Rainbow Events Centre, attracted more than 3,000 delegates and political stakeholders as the party intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The David Mark-led ADC also expelled Kenneth Ehiator, Stella Chukwu, and Elias Adiukwu from the party.

Senator Binos Yaroe, who represents Adamawa South, moved the motion for their expulsion on the floor of the convention, which was promptly seconded and adopted by delegates in attendance.

Speaking during an appearance on the I Said What I Said podcast, the singer said his thinking later shifted when he understood what it takes to build a lasting career. According to him, being surrounded by attention from many women made him realise the need for self-control rather than excess.
