Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson this summer, but the move depends on Premier League survival.

The Scotland left-back was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur in January, only for Liverpool FC to halt the transfer after failing to secure a replacement. NOP NIGERIA reports that the Reds have since confirmed Andy Robertson will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

New Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi supports the club’s pursuit. However, the deal depends on top-flight safety after Tottenham slipped into the relegation zone following West Ham United’s 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night.

De Zerbi takes charge for the first time when Spurs travel to Sunderland on Sunday. Tottenham are winless in 12 Premier League matches, a run stretching back to 2025, and sit two points from safety with a game in hand.

Robertson has largely played second fiddle to Milos Kerkez this season, making 31 appearances mostly from the bench. The 32-year-old still holds the Premier League assist record for a defender with 60, achieved 189 games faster than Leighton Baines.

Meanwhile, Chelsea FC striker João Pedro says his move to Stamford Bridge was driven by silverware ambitions.

“Of course, I’m very happy,” Pedro told the club’s website. “I think it’s one of the best seasons of my life. I think the expectations from me were high, so I try to keep my mentality always forward to help my teammates.

“If I don’t score in one game, Reece (James) and my teammates come to me and say, ‘Joao, you’ve got to score in the next one!’. I’ll try to keep my stats as high as possible.

“When I joined here, I came here to win trophies and give my best for Chelsea. When I was younger, I was watching the Premier League and my dream was to be one of these players here in England, playing for a big club. Now is my time and I need to enjoy it.”
