Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have intensified operations against terrorist elements in Kogi state, intercepting suspected logistics couriers and recovering a significant cache of ammunition in separate operations.

A statement issued Monday by Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the operations were carried out over a three-month period as part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist supply networks within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

“In one of the operations conducted on March 29, 2026, along the Jamata–Owara Road in Lokoja local government area, troops intercepted a suspected courier riding a motorcycle.

“A search of the motorcycle revealed a specially modified compartment used to conceal ammunition and other items. Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting follow-up operations by the troops,” he said.

The statement further said that troops had earlier apprehended a high-profile ammunition courier, identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as “Nasara,” who had been on security watch lists.

In a related development, the statement said troops acting on credible intelligence on April 20, 2026, mounted a snap checkpoint at Oshokoshoko along the Obajana–Kabba Road, also in Lokoja local government area.

The statement said during the operation, a Toyota bus travelling from Makurdi to Obajana was intercepted, leading to the arrest of two suspected terrorist couriers, Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.

“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat,” he said.
