Troops of the Joint Task Force South-South, under Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have uncovered and confiscated 3,250 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products during an anti-bunkering operation in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The discovery was made on Sunday, April 20, 2026, by troops of LCSF MST 1/2 along Refinery Road in Eleme during a routine patrol, according to security sources.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who shared the update on X, said the substances were believed to be linked to illegal bunkering activities in the area.
The recovered products were handled according to OPDS operational directives.
Authorities noted that anti-illegal bunkering operations are being intensified across the Niger Delta region to combat economic sabotage and safeguard critical national oil assets.
This latest seizure adds to ongoing efforts by security forces to curb crude oil theft and illegal refining, which continue to pose significant challenges in the oil-rich region.
