The Trump administration is nearing a deal for Spirit Airlines that would provide the carrier with up to $500 million in government support. In return, the U.S. could receive warrants for a potentially significant equity stake in the airline.
Spirit, which employs about 14,000 people, returned to bankruptcy last August amid high lease costs and debt. The airline has since sold planes, streamlined operations, raised airfares, and entered talks with creditors, who had been considering options including liquidation.
