The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has arrested two candidates and one parent for allegedly falsifying 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results with Artificial Intelligence and other electronic tools.

JAMB made the announcement on Friday, April 18, 2026, while releasing scores for 632,788 candidates who sat for the examination on Thursday, April 16.

According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the suspects were caught manipulating official SMS result notifications to fabricate or inflate scores with the intention of deceiving institutions, parents, and guardians.

“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” Benjamin said in a statement.

JAMB’s WarningThe board described the act as a serious criminal offence and vowed to prosecute all those involved to the fullest extent of the law.

Benjamin warned candidates against tampering with official result messages sent from JAMB’s designated SMS shortcodes (55019 and 66019).

He urged candidates to verify their results only through the official process: by sending UTMERESULT via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number registered during their examination.

Examination DetailsThe 2026 UTME commenced on April 16 and is scheduled to run until April 22 across various centres nationwide.

Results are being released in batches as the exercise continues. Official result slips printing will be enabled at a later date.

This development comes as JAMB continues its crackdown on examination malpractice, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the admission process.
