A political advocacy group, Akure North Mandate for Bamidele Ologunloluwa, has called for the emergence of a representative from Akure North in the House of Representatives, backing Bamidele Ologunloluwa as the most suitable candidate.
In a statement signed by its convener, Chief Ebenezer Oluwatuyi, the group argued that the long-standing pattern of representation in the Akure North and South Federal Constituency reflects a need for greater political inclusion and fairness.
According to the group, Akure North has not produced a member of the House of Representatives since 1999, with representation consistently emerging from Akure South over seven electoral cycles spanning more than two decades. It described the situation as an imbalance that runs contrary to the principles of equity and shared political participation.
The statement referenced political and philosophical ideas of distributive justice, noting that fairness in governance requires equal access to political opportunities for all segments within a constituency. It warned that continued exclusion of one area could weaken trust in the political process and reduce civic engagement.
The group also urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider inclusive representation in its candidate selection process, arguing that such a move would strengthen unity and political stability in the constituency.
Backing Ologunloluwa’s candidacy, the group described him as a seasoned politician with experience in governance and public service. It highlighted his roles as a former Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, and Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency.
It further stated that his emergence would represent both a corrective step toward fairness and a strategic advantage for the party, stressing that inclusive representation could enhance voter support and strengthen party loyalty.
The group concluded that after 24 years of perceived imbalance, it was time for what it described as equitable political representation to be reflected in the constituency’s leadership structure.
