The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has clarified his political plans following a viral slogan suggesting he would serve only one term in office.

Yusuf addressed the issue while speaking in a video circulated online, responding to the Hausa chant “Falle Daya” (One term) that has recently been directed at him.

While addressing supporters, the governor explained that the chant could be interpreted differently in the context of his recent political realignment.

“Actually, it is only one term in the NNPP party. We will do the second term in the APC,” Yusuf said.

He also dismissed the prospects of another opposition platform gaining political traction in the state.

“As for the ADC party that they have returned to, it will not even do one term, not ever,” he added.

Yusuf recently defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following a prolonged political crisis involving his former ally and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Announcing his decision earlier, the governor said the move was taken “in the best interest of the people of Kano State.”

Before leaving the NNPP, Yusuf formally resigned from the party, citing what he described as deepening internal crises and prolonged leadership disputes.

The political development is part of wider realignments in Kano’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
