Nigerian workers have been commended for their resilience, dedication and patriotism by the League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA), which also urged them not to lose hope despite the country’s economic and social difficulties.
Marking the 2026 International Workers’ Day (IWD) celebration, the association described workers as the backbone of national development whose sacrifices continue to keep the nation moving in challenging times.
A statement jointly signed by LAJA President, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, and Secretary, Princess-Ekwi Ajide, extended special congratulations to media professionals and members of the League for their commitment to duty and service.
According to the group, this year’s celebration comes at a crucial moment when employees across several sectors are showing uncommon courage, discipline and perseverance in the face of hardship.
Such determination, LAJA noted, remains a strong source of hope for a brighter and more prosperous Nigeria.
Special recognition was also given to journalists and other media practitioners for their critical role in deepening democracy, promoting transparency, holding leaders accountable and amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens.
Despite operating under difficult and sometimes risky conditions, media workers have continued to uphold truth and professional ethics, the association stated.
Journalists were therefore encouraged to remain steadfast, responsible and committed to the principles of ethical reporting.
Commendation was equally extended to workers in both the public and private sectors for their contributions to productivity, economic growth and national stability.
Nigerian workers were further urged to remain focused, diligent and optimistic, with assurance that their sacrifices would ultimately yield positive results.
Governments at all levels, employers and other stakeholders were also called upon to prioritise workers’ welfare through fair remuneration, better working conditions and policies that create enabling environments.
“As we celebrate Workers’ Day, may the labour of every Nigerian worker continue to yield progress, prosperity and fulfilment,” the statement added.
