2027: Jonathan Fails to Appear for PDP Presidential Form Submission

Former President Goodluck Jonathan did not appear for the submission of a presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 election, creating fresh uncertainty around reports linking him with a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The development comes days after a PDP bloc aligned with Seyi Makinde announced that Jonathan would participate in the party’s presidential screening exercise scheduled for Tuesday.

Jonathan was expected to formally submit his nomination form on Monday before the planned screening.

However, party officials reportedly waited for hours without seeing the former president.

A chieftain of the rival PDP faction, Lere Olayinka, disclosed the development in a post shared on his official Facebook page.

According to Olayinka, members of the faction led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi and other party stakeholders waited throughout the day for Jonathan’s arrival.

“The Turaki-led PDP waited from morning till 4pm today for President Goodluck Jonathan to come and submit a nomination form to contest for president.

“As at 4pm, they didn’t see Jonathan. They had to announce that the submission was postponed indefinitely,” he wrote.

The incident has further deepened the uncertainty surrounding Jonathan’s political intentions ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Although several groups within the PDP have continued to push for his return, the former president has not publicly declared interest in the contest.
