A former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Manniru Dan’iya, on Friday emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general election in Sokoto State.
The Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Professor Aminu Abubakar-Illela, declared him the sole candidate.
This was after he secured 52,831 affirmative votes.
Abubakar-Illela explained that registered party members from various polling units cast the votes, which were duly affirmed by a majority of members at the party secretariat.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security personnel, and other stakeholders.
“In accordance with the constitution, I hereby certify that Dan’iya satisfied all ADC requirements and is affirmed as the candidate,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Dan’iya thanked ADC members for finding him worthy of the contest and pledged to work for the party’s victory at all levels.
He also vowed to live up to expectations if elected in the general election.
NAN reports that Ambassador Faruku Malami-Yabo was also affirmed as the candidate for Sokoto South Senatorial District, while Alhaji Hassan Rabbah and Alhaji Mani Maishinko-Katami emerged as candidates for the East and North Senatorial Districts respectively.
