55-year-Old Man Sentenced To 1 Year In Jail For Sexually Exploiting A 15-year-Old Girl in Calabar

The Federal High Court sitting in Calabar has sentenced a 55-year-old man, Etteokon Ntuen, to one year in prison for harbouring and sexually exploiting a 15-year-old girl.

Ntuen was prosecuted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which told the court that he misled the victim’s parents by claiming he would take their daughter to Lagos for proper schooling and improved opportunities. Instead, he kept the girl in Calabar, where she was s+xually exploited.

The court found him guilty under Section 13(2)(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

Delivering judgment on April 29, 2026, Justice L. I. Ojukwu sentenced him to one year imprisonment. The court also ordered him to pay ₦300,000 as compensation to the victim and to write a formal apology to her and her family.

NAPTIP noted that the ruling is expected to serve as a warning to individuals involved in trafficking or sexually exploiting minors under the guise of offering educational opportunities.full details. .
