Abeokuta Film Festival Returns May 28, Set For Free Youth Training, Cultural Showcase

The Kayshow Multimedia Film and Media Organisation has announced the 2026 edition of its annual Abeokuta Film Festival, scheduled to hold at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta, with a free film screening and youth empowerment programme.

The event, themed around cultural renaissance and creative industry development, has received the endorsement of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Ọba Michael Adedotun Arẹmu Gbadebo, who approved the inclusion of a free training programme for Egba youths in film production and the arts.

According to the organisers, the festival—tagged Abeokuta Film Festival 2.0—will also feature a free public film show aimed at promoting entertainment access and cultural appreciation within the community.

The convener, Hon. Kehinde Soaga, said this year’s edition would be more expansive, with expected attendance from top government officials and stakeholders in Nigeria’s creative sector.

Among dignitaries expected are the Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and cultural advocate Lai Labode, alongside other guests from the entertainment and public sectors.

Organisers said the programme will feature film screenings, cultural dance performances, traditional cuisine exhibitions, and an award ceremony recognising outstanding contributions to the creative industry.

The free film screening is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Ake Palace Pavilion. The organisers added that admission would be strictly by decent dressing.

Kayshow Multimedia described the festival as part of its broader commitment to using film as a tool for youth engagement, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment in Ogun State.

The Abeokuta Film Festival is an annual cultural and entertainment event hosted in the Ogun State capital.
