Aledeh resigns after redeployment by Edo government

Eminent journalist, Suleiman Aledeh, has resigned following his redeployment from the Edo State Broadcasting Service (EBS), where he served as Managing Director, by the Edo State Government.

The redeployment was made known by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, in a statement on Saturday.

According to Ikhilor, who announced Aledeh’s replacement, he was redeployed to the Edo State Orientation Agency as its Director General.

The statement said: “The Edo State government wishes to inform the general public that the State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the redeployment of the Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Mr. Suleiman Aladeh to the Edo State Orientation Agency, where he will serve as pioneer Director General with immediate effect.

“In his stead, Mr. Festus Alenkhe is hereby appointed Acting Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service to oversee the operations of the station pending the deployment of a substantive Managing Director.

“The Governor’s decision forms part of ongoing administrative adjustments designed to optimise resource management and strengthen institutional capacity across critical sectors of the State’s administration.

“The redeployment reflects the Government’s recognition of Mr. Aledeh’s professional expertise and capacity to advance the mandate of the Orientation Agency an institution critical to civic engagement, values promotion and public communication strategy across Edo State.

“During his tenure at EBS, Mr. Aledeh demonstrated considerable dedication to public service broadcasting and institutional development. The State Government commends him for his outstanding contributions to the broadcasting sector and wishes him continued success in his new assignment.

“Mr. Alenkhe’s appointment as Acting Managing Director underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to seamless operational continuity at the Edo Broadcasting Service. He is expected to maintain the high standards of service delivery and professional broadcasting standards that define the station’s reputation.”

In a statement he issued on Sunday, which confirmed his resignation, Aledeh, a seasoned broadcaster, said: “Twenty-four hours ago, I arrived at Ground Zero.

“Not a place of defeat. Not a place of surrender.

“A place of reckoning.

“I came into a system with something. I left with nothing—because I poured everything I had into it. My energy. My experience. My ideas. My conviction. My time.

“And in the process, I learned a few uncomfortable lessons about why Nigeria often struggles to become all it can be.

“Too often, those who build are discarded when the building is complete. Too often, loyalty is rewarded with suspicion, while mediocrity and opportunism find protection. Too often, people are encouraged to take what they can because they fear that honest labour will ultimately go unrewarded.

“But Ground Zero is not the end.

“Ground Zero is where rebuilding begins.

“It is the point after the storm has passed and the dust has settled. The point where illusions disappear and reality stands naked before you. The point where pain becomes perspective and betrayal becomes instruction.

“Like the weather, change does not always arrive gently. Some seasons cool the skin; others leave scars. This season has done both.

“Yet here I stand.

“Wiser. Stronger. Clearer.

“I carry the lessons, especially those about trust, loyalty, and the true nature of people. I have learned that faithfulness is rare, and that sometimes the loyalty of a dog exceeds the loyalty of many humans.

“But I refuse to become bitter.

“Ground Zero is not where my story ends.

“It is where the next chapter begins.

“And this time, I build again—better, stronger, wiser, and with my eyes wide open.”
