The race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the 2027 Taraba State governorship election is heating up, with a coalition of party stakeholders and supporters of David Sabo Kente calling on him to formally declare his candidacy.

At least four prominent figures have so far obtained nomination forms, including David Sabo Kente, incumbent Governor Agbu Kefas, former Minister of Power Sale Mamman, and former Minister Mu’azu Jaji Sambo.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by APC State Secretary Godwin Villannah, the coalition urged Kente to join the race, citing widespread support across the state.

The group disclosed that APC leaders and Kente’s supporters from all 16 local government areas met in Wukari on April 14 and 15, 2026, and unanimously endorsed him. They offered to fund his nomination forms, but he reportedly declined.

The stakeholders argued it is now “compelling and necessary” for Kente to contest, citing his experience and broad acceptance as key to securing victory for the APC.

The statement heavily criticised Governor Agbu Kefas’s administration, accusing it of poor performance, failure to deliver infrastructure promises, such as the Wukari flyover, township roads, and an international stadium and marginalising long-standing APC members.

It also questioned the benefits of the governor’s foreign trips. The coalition called for a transparent primary process that ensures a level playing field for all aspirants.

The move signals a growing internal contest within the APC in Taraba ahead of the 2027 election.
