APC dismisses claim by Araraume he won Imo North primaries

The All Progressives Congress has dismissed the claim by the camp of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume that he won the primaries of the party for Imo North Senatorial District.

The spokesman of the Imo State chapter of the party, Dr. Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, said this in a statement he issued to newsmen.

The statement, on Saturday, said: “The attention of the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has been drawn to a fake news circulating around some social media platforms concerning the outcome of the Imo North Senatorial Primary Election of our Party.

“The Party wishes to state categorically, that the Senatorial Primary Election of our Party which was held on Monday, 18th May, 2026, produced only one outcome, which is the victory of Distinguished Senator Patrick Chukwuba Ndubueze.

“It may be recalled that before the primary election, three other aspirants, Viz; Chief Longers Anyanwu, Chief Ike Kenny Odoeme and Lady Gloria Akobundu, voluntarily stepped down for the incumbent Senator, Patrick Ndubueze, leaving only Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, as his sole challenger in the Primary Election.

“Patrick Ndubueze won overwhelmingly across the 64 wards in the Senatorial District and was duly declared the standard bearer of our Party by the Rear Admiral Williams Kayode (Rtd) led National Assembly Primary Election Committee, in line with our Party’s Primary Election Guidelines and in conformity with the Electoral Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Party also provided opportunities for individuals who are not satisfied with the outcome of the contest to ventilate their complaints by petitioning the National Assembly Primary Election Appeal Committee. This committee made the necessary publication inviting petitions from aspirants, and waited at the Party Secretariat on 47 Okigwe Road to receive such complaints, but none came by, to the best of our knowledge.

“The Party further clarifies that there is not the slightest iota of discontent within our Party, and that we shall continue to abide by democratic principles in carrying out our business. We restate our advice to all Party members, especially, aspirants and their supporters to incline themselves to the Party’s rules and ideals, in order not to misrepresent the Party before the public.

“The Party advises media houses and journalists to properly investigate any news brought to turn, through appropriate channels, before going to press with it, in order to preserve the integrity and credibility of the media and ensure that only verified information is fed to the public.”
