The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ajibola Basiru, says there is no official report yet from the party’s screening committee following questions over whether Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been screened.
On Sunday, Fubara had stormed out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening hall in Abuja, 20 minutes after entering and his demeanor visibly changed. With anger written across his face, the governor refused to grant interviews to journalists who had waited hours for his arrival.
When accosted by reporters asking how the exercise went, a visibly distressed Fubara simply said, “No comment.”
However, Basiru, while responding to journalists on Sunday, said appearing before the screening committee is simply part of the process and that the committee will only release its report after meeting all those expected to appear before it.
“I don’t know what you mean by screening. It appears that anybody that appears before the APC screening committee, of course, it is necessary as part of the process,” Basiru said.
He added, “After appearing before the screening committee, the screening committee will issue its report. As at now, when it has seen everyone it is supposed to see, we will now sit down and come up with the report of the screening committee.”
Basiru stressed that no conclusion should be drawn yet, saying, “As at now, there is no report of screening.”
